Is There Room In The NFL For Terrell Owens?
Terrell Owens is still an unsigned free agent and with the pro fall camps opening in less than two weeks, it makes me wonder is there room in the NFL for Terrell Owens.

Judging from the lack of interest by NFL Teams it is starting to look like the answer is no. Early this year it appeared that maybe the Red Skins was his salvation. Philly had traded Donovan McNabb to Washington and despite their past differences McNabb made a pitch to Washington management on Owens behalf, but that pitch went no where.

Now preseason and fall camp are approaching and still no one seems to want the once great wide out. From what sports center says it could be more than just his reputation as a trouble making prima donna, it could be the decrease in production.

During the 2007 season Owens produced over a thousand yards and 15 touchdowns, during the 2008 campaign he was still over a thousand yards but his touchdown production dropped a third, down to 10 TDs. The 2009 season was even less stellar, Owens was barely over 800 yards and is touchdowns were cut in half down to a total of 5, the least he has produced since 1999.

Sports Center went on to suggest the best hope Owens might have for a contract lies in The Emerald City of Seattle. Two of their top receivers are coming off surgeries, depending on how they are recovering, there might be an open for T.O.

The other hope they say might be available is during the first week or so of training camp if some one is injured that a team may pick him as a back up. Either way the future does not look bright for Terrell Owens.

For those of you that still do have a future in football , whether it be high school or college, check out our list of football training videos and football training aids.

Michael Vick Still Does Not Get It
As we are all aware the night of his 30th birthday he was involved in some kind of confrontation. Shots were fired but Vick had no part in it or he would be back behind bars.

He still doesn't get it, he is still hanging out with the same type of crowd that he got in trouble with in the first place. He still hasn't figured it out, there is nothing special about him, he has athletic talent and ability. So do a thousand other guys that never got the same breaks he did. Vick still does not accept that he did not hang the moon nor does the sun rise and set on Michael Vick.

Why am I taking time and blasting this guy, because he violated one of the most important tenants of life, he broke his word. I am a firm believer that regardless of talent, money or position, if your word means nothing then you are nothing. Michael Vick in my book is a nothing, he broke his word, he broke his word to kids, the very group of people he counts on to support him as fans and buy the merchandise that bears his name.

This weekend Vick was to make an appearance at the Camp Elite Sports’ two-day football camp held in Raleigh, N.C. He was guaranteed a 4 thousand dollar fee for appearing and did receive half up front.

Sunday night at 2 am in the morning one of his associates called they camp director, Cornelius Corprew, telling him Mr. Vick would not be making the scheduled appearance. Vick spokes person, Judy Smith, says her client travels at the leisure of his parole officer and in lieu of the incident that occurred on his 30th birthday that Vick has limited travel privileges.

Providing what she says is true, his traveling privileges have been curtailed, Vick had to be aware of the situation well before 2 am Sunday morning. He could have made the call himself to Mr. Corpew and explained his situation, not have one of his gophers make the call hours before the scheduled appearance.

He has once again spit in the face of fans and the benefits afforded him by a forgiving public and the game of football. Simply put Vick just doesn't get it, that he isn't the bomb, just his actions are, a big stink bomb, way to go Michael Vick.

What Were They Thinking
It is time for another installment where we question the thought process of public figures and see if they qualify for the Darwin Awards.

Usually I limit the focus of this topic to one individual, however this time we have two airheads competing for the idiot of the month award.

First we will examine the actions of the now former Athletic Director of the University of Georgia. When you read his escapades you will agree the guy has nothing but air between the ears, hot air.

On July 3, 2010  Georgia AD Damon Evans was arrested in Atlanta Georgia for DUI, that alone tells you the guy was not thinking clearly. To make matters worse, the 40 year married father was with 24 year old Courtney Fuhrmann, a woman he claimed as just a friend. The problem that raised the question about his relationship with Ms. Furhmann, was trying to supply a plausible explanation as to why her panties were between his legs. Needless to say, his spin did not fly and he had to admit he had been seeing the young woman for a week or so. Making matters worse, it appears his lady friend implied there would be trouble for the police if the arrested the Georgia AD.

With all the press public figures have received for affairs and other less than acceptable codes of conduct you would think Mr. Evans would know better, know that in today's world position, power and money does not get you a pass for messing up, it gets you alot of press and in cases like Governor Sanford, a divorce. Evans mess up begs the question, what was he thinking?

Our next genius is JaMarcus Russell a one time future NFL star, now a free agent that was released by the Oakland Raiders. He is now thought to be a legitimate contender to take over Ryan Leaf's spot as the biggest draft bust ever.

During his time with the Raiders, Russell was thought to drowsy, inattentive and just not focused on the job of being an NFL Quarterback, today's arrest may explain why.

Earlier today Russell was arrested at home in an undercover sting operation. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, are you ready, codeine cough syrup. Yes prescription cough syrup, which would explain his performances on and off the gridiron.

For a guy hoping to sign with a team as a free agent, he just shot himself in the foot big time. It is very unlikely any team will pick him up even for minimum wage. Given the talent and chance he had to make the bigs and to through it away for cough syrup, he begs he question, what was he thinking.

It is a shame to see young people with talent and opportunity throw it all away for an extra marital affair or drugs. When will these people given these chances realize, being talented having position doesn't give you a pass, it makes your more accountable and you must be more responsible or you end up a head line in the evening news and the butt of the water cooler jokes. What the heck were these two latest air heads thinking?

Spartan Football Shows Signs of the Times
The San Jose State Spartans schedule demonstrates the financial times of the state of California. They will open up the 2010 season with body bag games.

They start out with Alabama and move on to Wisconsin. No disrespect to the San Jose, they are going to be tortured bad in these games, I just hope non of their kids get injured. SJSU is a lower tier WAC team, no way can they be competitive against the Tide or the Badgers. Its the money.

Given the financial crisis of  California, San Jose State needs to the money if they are to have a football program. California is in such dire straights the Spartans and other schools in the Golden State are taking games they other wise would avoid.

As a fan of a conference mate of San Jose I wish only good things for them and hope in those two opening games no on is seriously injured. Sure be nice if our economy could get turned around so schools with less money don't have to take on these dangerous games. I don't think they are good for college football or the teams that have to play them.

Utah State Utes - Will They Leave?
Just when I thought I had displayed a slight modicum of intelligence the Pac 10 removes all doubt....I don't know diddly.

In an earlier post I suggested that the Big 12 might look to the Mountain West as a remedy to fill the void left in the conference by their two defectors, Colorado to the Pac10 and Nebraska to the Big 10. My guess was they would look at BYU, TCU and Utah. That still may be the case.

However I did overlook the Pac 10 needing to add one more to bring them balance and create the newly expanded conference to the PAC12.

After being rejected by Texas, Oklahoma, and two others, the PAC 10 has struck first by offering and Invitation to the Utah Utes to join their conference. As of this writing there has been no public response from the Utes.

I can think of a few reasons why they would say no and a few reasons why they would say yes. However my keen insights to all this conference musical chairs has only demonstrated my insights are as agile as an iron deer on the front lawn so I will take a pass.

It will be interesting to see what Utah decides and if the Big 12 will follow suite and try to raid the Mountain West Conference like the PAC 10 has. If they do and say BYU and TCU are asked and accepted, what will happen to the MWC? Will it become the new WAC?

As we know the MWC was formed from former WAC teams, will current WAC teams be invited to fill the void providing current MWC teams jump?

I wont hazard a guess, but will just sit back and wait and see what happens. At this stage it really is anyones guess.

PassBack Football

On June 22nd the PassBack Football will make its national debut on QVC the big boy of television shopping networks. It is anticipated they may sell as many as 4,000 footballs in 8 minutes. Hard for me to imagine doing anything than losing 4,000 strands of hair in 8 minutes if I had that many to lose.

I can see why QVC is excited to have this product on their show and why it was written up in the Wall Street Journal as one of the most innovative football training aids to hit the market.

Quarterbacks traditionally need a work out partner, some one to throw that ball to when they are practicing their delivery and other passing skills needed to be successful. If not they are bound to products that are cumbersome and difficult to use with wires and cords and such.

Not with this Football, all you need is a wall, yes just a simple wall and you can do all your workouts, three and five step drops, while practicing your delivery, improving your arm strength and accuracy at the same time.

I truly believe in this product, it great for quarterbacks, receivers and defensive backs.

Receivers you need a partner to throw the ball to you when you want to practice pass catching skills, making sure you are catching the ball with the finger tips. PassBack Football is the solution, all you need is a wall and you can work out at your convenience, building hand strength and better pass catching skills.

Why wait for June 22 when you can get one now. Use the link below, check out the training videos and then ask yourself, can this product help me improve my passing and catching skills?

Texas Longhorns Say No
It appears the Big 12 has dodged the fatal bullet with The Texas Longhorns and four other schools declining an invite to the PAC 10.

So what does this mean, I suspect for the time being the Big 12 will remain intact and will seek out two other schools to fill the void left by the departure of Colorado and Nebraska.

Where will they look? My best unqualified guess is they may go shopping in the Mountain West Conference.

TCU would be an excellent fit for the Big 12, they have solid academics and a very strong football program. Geographically they are a natural for the conference and I do believe if offered they would jump.

BYU the flag sip of the Mountain West is is my second choice that might be offered the opportunity to move up to an AQ conference, although Utah with two BCS appearances and strong wins over BCS opponents, Pittsburg 2004 and Alabama in 2008, they make a strong case for being selected to the Big 12.

Now all we can do is play the wait and see game as the musical chairs of college football continues to play out.

The one thing that is certain, the Big 12 is safe, for now.

Big 12 Does it Die on Tuesday?
Tuesday appears to be a land mark day for the Big 12. Four Boards of Regents from Big 12 schools meet and decide......whether they will stay with the conference or move on.

Most eyes will be on the Texas Longhorns who many think will bolt. also in the public cross hairs is Oklahoma, another conference "blue blood" that is expected to move to the PAC 10.

Another story that started gaining traction yesterday is a merger of the Big 12 and the MWC who on Friday invited Boise State to join their conference. It could save the Big 12 from extinction but is it realistic?

The advantages of such a merger are many. Should the Big 12 stay alive, the schools that abandoned ship would have to pony of the exit fees and remaining schools would be assured their income from the hoops tournaments. Also they would retain their AQ BCS status and that would benefit the 10 teams from the Mountain West Conference.

The question I have, is if the Big 12 does become a ghost would the BCS offer the MWC AQ status. Based on what I have seen in the past from the BCS, I doubt they would, they seem not to want to share, and leaving things as is, without the Big 12 would mean more money for the remaining conferences.

One thing for sure, the water is as clear as the Louisiana Gulf Coast, but will be resolved quicker if government stays out of it.

Time to Eat Some Crow
It is time for me to eat some crow, hard to imagine a 61 year old guy can make a mistake, but I did.

In an earlier post on the Big 12 I said with Colorado bolting tot he PAC 10 that would be the death knell for Boise State's chances of being invited to the MWC. I gave some insight as to why the Broncos would be left behind, like how the MWC would be seeking lower tier teams from the Big 12 as it disintegrates.

Yesterday I was shown how little I know, Boise State was offered and accepted an invite to join the Mountain West Conference in 2011. This is a big move for Boise State and one that as a die hard Bronco Fan I hope proves successful for Boise.

As expected yesterday the Nebraska Corn Huskers have bolted to the Big 10 giving that conference 12 members.

I hate to see the Big 12 become a ghost and don't pretend to understand what happened. The conference had college football blue bloods in it with the likes of Nebraska and Oklahoma, who is expected to jump to the PAC 10. The members were certainly cash rich and have healthy Alum support, so what happened there, I have no clue.

The one thing I do know the college football landscape is changing, changing at a pace that is to quick for this old guy. Heck I still miss roll your own windows in my car and have yet to figure out IPODs and all the other new tech gadgets. Change can be good and the changes in college sports might be just what the doctor ordered. Really what do I know, eat prunes, stay regular and try to work out.

Jeremiah Masoli: What the Heck Was He Thinking?
Another athlete for the Darwin Hall of fame awards. One we have discussed before under this very category.

Oregon Duck Jeremiah Masoli is back in the news and once again it is not good news for Oregon or Masoli.

For those that don't know after having a successful 2009 season that culminated with a Rose Bowl appearance, Masoli was involved in a frat house incident that proved he and another Duck football player had stolen Mac laptop computers from the house.

Masoli was given a second chance, he was suspended from the 2010 team but allowed to work out with them. He had one year of eligibility left and all he had to do to finish college on a full ride and play football was behave.

Apparently they asked too much because Monday night Jeremiah Masoli threw his second chance away and on Tuesday he was dismissed from the team with no chance of reprieve.

Monday night in Springfield, Oregon as he was exiting a drive way, he failed to stop and was pulled over for a minor traffic violation, one that is now his final undoing with the Oregon Ducks. It was determined that Masoli was driving on a suspended license and pot was found in the car.

His career at Oregon is finished, no school will take a chance on him, he has thrown away a college education because he acted like he was bigger than the rules, free college for a stolen Mac, driving when he was not allowed and pot. How stupid is that? A degree from Oregon could have taken him anywhere in life he wanted to go and he traded it for nothing, absolutely nothing.

I don't wish to kick a man when he is down, but I do hope younger athletes that read this get the message. It doesn't matter how big your talent is, the rules are bigger and going against them is a losing battle, look what it cost Masoli, his name is mud, football career is over and he just tossed a full ride to a fine University in the trash for pot and a stolen lap top. What the heck was he thinking.

USC Football Gets Nailed
I cannot believe my timing less than two hours after an earlier post where I say I believe the once crown jewel of PAC 10 football is going to face tough NCAA sanctions the NCAA drops the hammer on the men from Troy. Drop the hammer hard they did.

USC is facing some of the harshest sanctions since the Craig James and Eric Dickerson scandal that got the once powerful SMU Mustangs the death penalty.

After four years of heated investigations into the athletic careers of Reggie Bush and hoops star O.J. Mayo, the NCAA has ruled the So. Cal Athletic Department has operated in a most egregiousness fashion. It has been determined by the college sports governing body that these two athletes in essence played for pay and that the athletic department knew it and did nothing.

Bush has now been ruled an ineligible player, this could cost him his Heisman Trophy, I doubt he really cares since it was all about the money and he keeps his checks rolling in from the pros.Like Craig James and Eric Dickerson, he moves on unscathed while students and future athletes at USC must pay the price.

USC has been placed on 4 years probation and will lose millions by being banned from post season football bowls for 2 years. Along with this, future teams will suffer with the loss of 10 scholarships a year for the next three seasons.

Adding their woes, the Trojans must forfeit several of their final wins in the 2004 season. Which means they could have to waive their claim as national champions that year and they will have to vacate all their wins for the 2005 season.

Making things worse for USC is the probation, if more rules violations are uncovered in what appears to be an ongoing investigation into the Reggie Bush situation, more and harsher penalties can be applied.

AD and former Heisman Trophy winner Mike Garrett has no comment and SC President Steven B. Smaple says the school is appealing claiming the punishment is too harsh.

Personally I think the punishment fits the crime, USC cheated, the public, the fans and the opponents. Their program was a lie and they were rewarded millions for the deception. Had Bush not played they would not have done as well as they did. I would like to USC have to forfeit and pay back all the bowl monies they received during the Bush era.

If we want integrity in athletics then the schools that breach the rules and public trust should pay harsh penalties. Penalties that cost more money than the rewards they gain for cheating.

SC has an uphill battle to come back, unlike SMU till last season the Trojans will come back, it will take time.

How many kids that signed with the Trojans for 2010 will leave? How will they recruit against programs that can provide post season appearances during the following 2 years.

How they assure recruits the damage is over, while the investigation continues. Don't get me wrong I do not dislike USC, I am tired of seeing teams cheat the system and get paid for it while other schools play by the rules and do not see the big BCS pay day.

The PAC 10 made one good move today, getting Colorado into the fold, they will be a middle of the road team in the conference, but their days of scandal are behind them.

Now the PAC 10 must go find some more premiere names to fill out the conference and restore interest and credibility to their product.

I have nothing to support my belief, but I think Pete C saw the writing on the wall and like rats abandoning a sinking ship, he and many of his staff jumped ship to the Sea Hawks.

Shame on you Pete Carroll, you move on collecting big pay checks and the fans of the Trojans, the school and others pay the bill, your bill Pete, shame on you. too bad USC can't sue you for damages.

Has The Big 12 Died
With all the talk of conference expansion and how it would effect other conferences the question must be asked, has the Big 12 died?

Today we have confirmation of the first nail in its coffin. The Colorado Buffaloes are leaving the Big 12 for the Pac 10, giving that conference 11 members.

Even though it was wildly speculated the first school to jump ship would be Nebraska, Colorado and the Pac 10 made it official, just a few hours ago confirming the first to leave is Golden Buffaloes.

Speculation was that Nebraska could be exiting the conference as soon as tomorrow, however AD Tom Osborne has refused to comment other than to say, “Until we have a definite decision, I’m not saying anything else,”

Other candidates expected to move on include,Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Leaving the conference very weak with only Missouri, Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State.

What does all this mean, would the Big 12 still an AQ conference for the BCS's big party? Will there even be a conference.

Providing all the teams suspected of jumping ship do, I suspect the answer to the questions are no and no.

Will this put the MWC of BYU, TCU and Utah in the drivers seat to become the next AQ conference, one would have to think so. Will the MWC be able to lure some of the remaining Big 12 schools to their conference. I would think so and in doing so shore up the Mountain West's case to become a part of the BCS.

The MWC just concluded their meeting and decided to place their expansion plans on hold pending what other conferences do. They were expected to offer Boise State an invitation to join, however with these new developments, I think the Broncos can stop holding their breath.

Granted Boise would make an excellent fit for the MWC. Geographically they are close, easy to travel to and the Boise State fans travel well. However there are bigger Big 12 schools with more name recognition that are reasonably close to the anchor schools of the MWC.

Certainly the PAC 10 will want to have balance in their numbers and bring one to three more big name schools to fill the star attraction void created by USC this last season. Oklahoma would be a perfect fit in that area. They are always contenders, travel well and put fans in the stands where ever they travel.

USC has been the hallmark team this last decade for the PAC 10 last season was short of what Trojan fans have come to expect from the Men from Troy. With Pete Carroll leaving and I do see NCAA troubles on the immediate horizon for the Trojans, now makes perfect sense to expand and attract some big name talent like the Sooners.

To answer the question, has the Big 12 died, the conference as we knew it has, it happened today with the exit of Colorado.

What Are They Thinking - Are They Darwinian?
This one is nuts, literally nuts. They must be trying out for the Darwin Awards.

In the state of Minnesota there appears to be a new game raging through the high schools. The name of the game is called "sack tapping" if you think it is restricted to south of the belt line on the males species you are right.

It is a high stakes game and many young boys are paying the price, this game can change a boy from a rooster to hen in minutes.

The most recent victim of this "game" is a 14 year old boy from Crosby, Minnesota. In between classes, a class mate came up and punched him sharply in the nether region.

Around one am the next morning the young man woke up his mother complaining about excruciating pain. He was taken to the local hospital where the doctor preformed surgery removing the boys right testicle.

Dr.Scott Wheeler, a urologist in Brainerd, Minn. has made an eye opening diagnosis with the following statement, "It's just gotten way out of control," Gee Doc do your really think so? He went on to say he performs three to four surgeries a year on boys with ruptured testicles and other complications as a result of “sack tapping.”

" All parents, you need to have this talk with your kids not to do it. It's lost its humor. It's not a game anymore. People get hurt," he added.

I am dumb founded after the first kid went from a baritone to soprano you would think the "game" would end.

"Sack tapping" gives the old expression "boys will be boys " a whole new meaning.

Disclaimer, do not try this game at home or any where else, you can go from Fred to Freida in a real hurry. My God, what are they thinking?

Can Weighted Agility Gloves Help You Run Faster?

THE SCIENCE OF RUNNING:

Your lower body responds to upper body stimulus. Every action above the waist is countered below. Your hands and feet coordinate simultaneously, so a slow, weak, inefficient upper body will be countered by a slow, weak, inefficient lower body.

GO AHEAD, TRICK YOURSELF:

Adding weight to your hands with the Weighted Agility Glove builds resistance as your feet and hands move together. When used for speed training, the W.A.G. overloads resistance to the arms. The removable finger weights allow you to adjust the amount of resistance. As weight is taken away, your body is “tricked” into moving faster.

THIS IS NOT YOUR DADDY’S WEIGHT TRAINING:

You’ve never had a training aid like this. Gripping an average dumbbell or weight is bulky and forces continuous tension in the arm. With the W.A.G, you can remain in a relaxed state, allowing you to build muscle memory and train more efficiently. Not to mention, you look cooler than the guy still running around holding dumbbells.

BREAK FREE FROM THE BULK:

The W.A.G leaves your hands free to run drills and focus on proper form and mechanics in your sports-specific motion. Because you are free to grip, you can catch, throw, dribble, pass, pitch, set, spike, hit… well, you get the picture.

Tebow Makes Top 25
It appears Tim Tebow's work on developing better passing mechanics and a quicker release have paid off. He was drafted 25th in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Tebow was drafted by the Denver Broncos. This could be a great fit for the former Florida Gator quarterback. Josh McDaniels' offense seems to be what the doctor ordered for Tebow and vice versa. From this style of offense Tebow should be able to make the throws and put pressure on defenses with his legs.

As a Boise State homer I am delighted to see former BSU cornerback Kyle Wilson was also a first round draft pick, being selected 29th by the New York Jets. Being an Easterner, Kyle is from New Jersey. This is great for his family, they will be able to attend many of his games. Given his nose for the football and the type of physicality he brings to the game, look for him to break in right away in the nickle position.

The NFL Draft
The NFL Draft is just two quick days away. Many college football players become instant millionaires in the lottery. One name that has not been getting the coverage I thought it would is Tim Tebow.

Will he be a high round maybe even a first round pick or more of an after thought high risk gotten at bargain prices in the later rounds?

Six months ago that question would have created arched eyebrows followed by the question are you nuts? Tebow is a high first round draft pick.

Then in January came the Senior Game and Tebow's stock fell with every passing attempt. It wasn't because he ended the game with 8-12 or two fumbles that caused his drop in stock, it was his passing mechanics, his slow release.

The Senior Game put Tebow under a microscope more intense than the ones he saw during his college days. He was being thought of in the worst possible light, a system quarterback.

What the scouts saw on every passing attempt was a looping throwing motion and a slow release, not acceptable in the pros.

Tebow spent most of February and March working on his passing mechanics, trying to learn new and football passing mechanincs.

His day of reckoning came during Florida Pro Day on March 17th. As many as 75 scouts and coaches were there, eyes focused on Tim Tebow. The changes he made seemed to work, gone was the slow looping throwing motion, replaced by a more efficient passing technique and much quicker release.

Tebow seems to have gotten rid of the system quarterback image showing much improvement as a passer, the consensus being that he might have lifted his stock back to a first round draft pick.

If you are a young quarterback or coach, part of every quarterback training program will better serve the team and athlete if due diligence is paid to the passing mechanics.

There is football training equipment designed to help any athlete wanting to be a good passer develop better throwing mechanics, one is the PassBack Football

Scoretouchdowns.com offers a great selection of DVDs that help quarterbacks develop their quarterback passing mechanics and their footwork. Check them out, see if they can help you improve your game.

Boise States Spring Scrimmage
Certainly by now it is no secret my favorite team is the Boise State Broncos. So naturally I was in attendance for the scrimmage marking the end of spring ball.

What a day it was, finally warm weather and a sunny day. Most fans were in shorts and shirt sleeves, thank God our winter has come to an end.

The first bit of good news for BSU fans, we are getting a new rug. Yes it will be blue and replace the turf put down 2 years ago. For any of you that saw the field on television over the last two years, the field looked terrible on the tube. Parts of it looked shiny and the black rubber pellets made the white lettering dingy and the rest of the field look dirty. The manufacturer agreed and at no cost to the Broncos is replacing the turf.

I liked what returning starter quarterback Kellen Moore showed. His pocket presence seems even stronger. He showed his innate ability to feel pressure and slip defenders. As usual he escaped all would be tacklers and took no sacks, but did throw two picks. Last season Moore played 13 games had only three picks and no sacks.

Red shirt quarterback Joe Southwick continues to live up to his billing, this kid is good. He finishes spring ball 3rd on the depth chart but I expect him to be 2nd coming out of fall camp and look for him to see regular season action in the wildcat formation.

He brings new dynamics to the BSU offense, he is a good passer and throws a long ball with more authority than Moore, throw in his running abilities and he will give defenses a handful.

Overall it was a very good scrimmage with the defense still ahead of the offense. Boise didn't show too much and wisely so, they open on Sept 6th against a highly ranked Virginia Tech back in Washington D.C.

Mark that game on your calendar it is going to be one heck of a game. Both teams should start the season ranked in the top 5.

Its Tax Day

April 15th is Uncle Sam's favorite day of the year, income tax day, the day the government takes a big bite out of our wallets. Today is their payday and judging from the national debt, they squander our hard earned money faster than we earn it. That discussion is for another time and different blog.

Today marks another milestone in history. Today marks the 98th anniversary of the sinking of Titanic. It was 98 years ago last night about midnight the Titanic hit the ice burg and began is journey into history as one of the worst maritime disasters.

Just two short hours after hitting the ice burg Titanic was on the ocean floor, while above her, people were fighting for their lives. As we know many drowned, others froze to death in the frigid Atlantic waters and others were safe in life boats not knowing if anyone was coming to their rescue.

What makes this anniversary different? For the first time since the ship went down there are no known survivors. Millvina Dean who passed away on May 31,2009 at age 97 was the last known living Titanic survivor and now she too is gone.

Ms.Dean was a mere two months old when and her family boarded the ill fated ship, making her the youngest passenger on board. Surviving with Dean was her mother Georgetta then aged 32 and her older brother Bertram aged 23 months. Her father stayed on the doomed ship and was lost at sea along with an estimated 1,500 people.

Millvina as previously stated died May 31,2009, in a nursing home located in Southhampton, England the same port and on the 98th anniversary of the launching of Titanic, May 31, 1911.

Dillon Baxter, Is He USC's Next Reggie Bush
The USC Trojans have been lacking an electrifying running back since the days of Reggie Bush. Are those days over, have they found salvation in a freshman named Dillon Baxter?

Dillon Baxter, who is he and why should I care? He was a highly sought high school recruit who played quarterback and running back for Mission Bay High School, who during Saturday's scrimmage electrified his coaches and teammates.

What did he do to become today's Internet buzz, he broke one for 50 yards. A running back breaking one for 50 yards is no big deal, that is what they are supposed to do. Hit the hole and go or get around the corner and turn on the jets.

That it was a freshman doing it, is a feat and good sign of things to come. It is not so much that this freshman did it, it's the way he did it.

Below you will see the video demonstrating this kid's skills. It is about 50 seconds into the video, right after Junior Defensive Tackle DaJohn Harris strips quarterback Mitch Mustain of the ball and rumbles 52 yards before Mustain catches and tackles Harris.

Before we crown this kid the next Reggie Bush or do as some have, speculate as to his draft status, the kid is only a freshman. The run you saw was against the starting D line, but the secondary was comprised of walk ons and other non starters.

It is nice to see a kid show that much promise and hopefully he will have a stellar career, but one run in one practice is just that, one run in one practice.

Texas Stadium: It's a Memory
Today marks the true end of legendary Texas Stadium, at approximately 11 am Mountain Time a young man who won an essay contest, pulled the trigger on Texas Stadium located in Irving Texas.

As he pulled the trigger, he ignited the over 2,700 pounds of dynamite that turned the once proud football stadium into a pile of rubble. It took only seconds for the 37 year home of the Dallas Cowboys to become a pile of debris.

Opening in 1971, it was the only home the Dallas Cowboys knew. It was sad to see the once proud stadium crumble under the power of the explosions, to see the site of so many games and home to so many championship teams fall to the wayside.

Many people were in attendance and wondered, what it must have felt like to Roger Stauback and so many great football players whose career played out in front of the nation and fans that for almost 4 decades filled the stands to cheer their 5 time world champion Cowboys on. A place where Cowboy Emmitt Smith set the rushing record.

Many of us older fans can recall Tom Landry wearing his fedora prowling the side lines, Bullet Bob Hays breaking a big one, leaving defenders grabbing at air.

We will always recall Roger Stauback scrambling escaping defenders and completing the big pass. And of course we will always remember the beauty of the world famous Dallas Cowboy Cheer leaders.

Time moves on and so have the Cowboys, over to Arlington, Texas and a new home, but nothing will replace the famous Texas Stadium with its hole in the roof so God could see his favorite team play.

ESPN Preseason Polls
Today ESPN released its preseason collegiate football polls. They really cannot be taken seriously but they feed those of us that live and breathe college football.

They give us something to debate before the true preseason polls are released in August.

As a true Boise State homer I am delighted to see the Boise State Broncos come in at #3 behind Alabama and Ohio State. Adding to my delight is Virginia Tech coming in at #5.
Today's ESPN poll is a good precursor to the polls starting positions we will see in August.

Boise State sees the 2010 season as their first real chance to have a run for the National Title Game. After winning this years Fiesta Bowl the Broncos ended the year ranked 4th, the highest finish in school history.

This year the Broncos will open their season against Virginia Tech, back in Washington on Labor Day, Monday Sept. 6th.

With both BSU and VT starting in the top 5 the winner will be in good position to make a run at the NC game.
